Development and realization of systems and instruments which have to operate under vacuum conditions at low temperatures requires knowledge and expertise in this field. In environments like this, behaviour of materials is different from what would be expected in ambient environment. Next to obvious shrinkage of materials due to cooling down, one will encounter changes in mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of the materials.
Apart from knowledge and expertise in this field, final testing at cryogenic temperatures is crucial in order to find out the limitations in the performance. In order to execute tests at low temperatures, it is not only required to create the cold environment but also good knowledge of the expected phenomena is essential in order to prepare the tests including the specific test setup.
