Product description

The Cryo Linear Actuator (CLA) is developed for nanometric positioning in a cryo-vacuum environment and can be seen as an actuated set screw. Piezo ceramics in the disc-shaped head generate torque pulses which cause the connected screw to rotate in the stationary nut yielding linear motion. Both screw and nut are ceramic and run without coatings which could be worn off due to extensive use. Being self-locking by nature stability in the sub-nanometer range is obtained. The result is an actuator suited for set and forget applications with nanometric step size and high driving forces.

The COE (Cryo Optical Encoder) is a fiber based optical encoder that can be added to selected positioners for position feedback. It works by illuminating a grid and detecting high/low intensity transitions from features in the grid. Resolution is determined by the pitch of these features. It is an incremental encoder, which means that it will reset to “zero” at a power shutdown. The COE requires the OEM electronics module as light source and position readout. More info can be found in the Downloads section.

HV rated positioners can realistically be considered compatible with pressures as low as 1E-8 mbar. Lower pressures can be achieved by prolonged baking of positioners in vacuum at 100-150 deg C, depending on the type of positioner. Upon request JPE can provide such service at additional costs.
